cup, and remains of determination vs hope discussion
Per the discussion ;I like the notion of military training that helps you surpass your conscious consideration of acts. That can be quite useful. Of course, in that case, you're not getting rid of that faith= conscious consideration that X leads to Y, you're merely training yourself to substitute another's conscious consideration for your own, and have it become so second nature that the 'faith' or whatever (which slows things down) dissappears.
And yes, for any team building activity, this singleminded determination, unfettered by one's personal opinions is fundamental. Of course, what makes such team mates follow their leaders? faith in their leaders, or simply the ability to, as you say, just do it?
that is something I will have to think about. Many interesting things.
("People can’t lift up cars) When they go to lift it off their kid, they aren’t doing so because they believe it will succeed… .they do it because they are determined to save their kid…" I've heard these stories too, and what led me to make the commentary about the burning room: I thought all people had access to this adrenaline reaction. Very much not faith-based, more lizard brain, etc.
I MUST say, though, what part of my response made you think I was 'scoffing' at your example? Read it again, including the part where I said 'probably police force, etc people would know more about this' and then tell me whether I was scoffing or not. Heaven forbid I would scoff at such a serious thing! I will go down with my sinking ship, claiming my innocence of such ignonimious charges to the bitter end..
